Over the past few days the children in Kittah Alef have been learning about Yom Yerushalayim, which celebrates the return of Jerusalem to Jewish hands. They know about the various names of Yerushalayim (did you know that there are 70?), the different sites in Yerushalayim, the symbol of Yerushalayim, and of course, the significance of this holy city to our nation.
Today, as a culmination of this unit, the first graders participated in many fun centers related to this special city. They enjoyed etching a picture of a holy site in Jeruslaem onto metallic paper, played "Go Fish" with Jerusalem trivia, and wrote and identified the different names of Jerusalem. The students had a blast creating a tasty Jerusalem landscape out of cookies and treats. They were also very excited to go on a virtual interactive tour of Yerushalayim, right on our Smartboard!
Everyone had a great time while being immersed in the history and significance of the city at the center of our people.
